Anyone have any ideas for things that actually work?
Now that my infection is clearing, I am wondering how to deal with these surgical scars.
I am using Bio oil (which is basically Vitamin E/A and lavender) on my hip incision....also have frankincense that I am considering using.
Neck scar will be huge, horizontal, and visible around front of throat....I am trying not to be so vain and trying to come to terms with how much I care about it, in the great scheme of things (it's a small price to pay). I know I'm just being stupid and vain......my friends say to just make up a good story behind it (I teach at an inner-city "high needs" public school so I could gain some serious status from gossip related to this kind of a highly visible scar)....
But anyone tried any of those expensive scar/stretchmark creams that actually worked?

I have one that works pretty well. My sister used it for over a year and got her stretch marks to fade quite well and made her complexion completely one tone. I use it, but I am too lazy to use it every single day. Besides, I like fruity smelling creams (like vanilla and soy milk from Avon...mmmmhh!! )
I can send you a tub? It's a pretty dry cream so you mix it with babylotion and apply it. Takes a long time to see results, but nothing is instant (well, nothing that wont strip your skin chemically), so if you got at least 6months...? Be happy to send you a tub!
PS: Vanity is good for the female ego ;D

my friend has a vertical scar from the top of her chest up her throat, about 6 inches or so, from a surgery she had last summer to remove a tumor. at first she was self-conscious about it, but now she wears it as a badge of honor for being a survivor. i think it's pretty kick ass of her.

I think you are Nice P.S. I would give you Babies Freckles, I am so not your type....seriously. (Oil and water, dude. ) You should be careful who you flirt with or you could end up with yet another ill-matched wife....you need someone more like you....you will find her, Freckles. You will. But thanks for saying I'm nice....

now she wears it as a badge of honor for being a survivor. That is a good mindset to have, for sure. Once it fades, I might not be so worried about it...I guess only time will tell.....seems like a metaphor for my life in many ways.

As everyone else, I am *trying* to not be vain but it's so damn hard! lol

Yup -- Vitamin E.
Instead of using an oil that is likely to be diluted with other things (like lavendar) you can buy Vitamin E capsules and squeeze out the oil. That way you have pure Vitamin E oil.

So it's been 4 months of using frankincense (5% in a carrier of BioOil) 4 times a day....the scar on neck is not as bad as it was but is still pink, scar on hip is white and barely noticeable (figures ). Neck scar has keloided but that is due to the infection and my genetics.....I take Vitamin E and zinc internally daily and have had ultrasound directly on the scar at physio (which noticably helps break the adhesions). I've also had low level laser 4 times, but not directly on the scar as apparently it is too close to thyroid gland for safety). I'm getting a consult with a laser guy/dermatologist to see if laser resurfacing is an option but it may be too close to thyroid and carotid artery/may be too much titanium hardware to be feasible. I would come up with the money...I know that sounds brutally vain but I would.....I feel like it's the first thing people look at when they see me now. I don't think I would go for revisional sugery but I will see what the laser doc says. There is a company called Renovo that is in clinical trials for a scar reduction treatment but it has to be applied at time of surgical closure to fresh wounds. www.renovo.com/itemdetails.asp?c_id=31&news_id=41Wish I had a remarkable tale for you about something that works. I have been fanatically religious in the applications. I don't think it would bother me as much if it would fade to be whiter. I am still keeping up the applications...maybe it'll just need a few more months? What have you found, Hoodie?

I want to know too. I've got so many freckles and sun aging on my face that I've considered going to a dermatologist. I never ended up getting the cream from Phoenixx because some of my mail got mislaid by the post/wrongly delivered....I suspect that several eBay purchases vanished this way too. I have been meaning to ask her what the name of the cream is ....but Phoenixx has been going through some pretty rough times lately so I didn't want to bother her with my obsessions about my scar
