for the scar, I started using seabuckthorn seed oil (in addition to everything else)...not a controlled study since I've basically been slathering it 6-9 times a day with several different things, but it is noticeably less red now...can't do laser resurfacing as my carotid artery is right there....I'd be too scared probably anyhow after looking into it more.
for sunspots, you could try retisol-a cream....I am and it's not too irritating if you go for the low dose one (0.01%)..a little bit of flaking but nothing too bad.

Yup -- Vitamin E. Instead of using an oil that is likely to be diluted with other things (like lavendar) you can buy Vitamin E capsules and squeeze out the oil. That way you have pure Vitamin E oil. i can get pure vitamin e oil at walmart too - it's in the section by the pharmacy where the vitamins are. it's liquid, in a 2 oz bottle, i believe. i want to say that it sells for $3-4. i also make soap, and so i order a lot of my stuff online - you can find great prices for pure oils on a few of the sites - if you want to know the ones that i use, let me know.

I have used pure vitamin e oil...I've used some stuff called Scar Zone...Nothing seems to really work. I figure the redness is diminishing due to time and not me putting things on because I seem to get the same results even when I forget to put stuff on for a while...
Now my vanity is coming out due to having ripped open a couple of stretch marks on the inside while having a disaster while moving. They're bright red and gross again...UGH

Vanity is not a bad thing.
How about buying some scarfs and things to dress up your outfits when you are feeling down about it?
I think you should wear them with pride, but I also know that I freak out over a zit so I don't have room to talk.
My son has a scar near his eye...I tried the kids maderma (sp) and it really did not make a difference at all. I figure he is a boy...it will make him look tougher.

yeah...it's funny how scars look okay on a guy even when it's on the face....especially if you play hockey- then it's outright cool.
I can cover mine with a scar now that it is getting cooler....it just looks weird to be wearing a scarf at the height of summer, is all.
But that is a good suggestion, Rocko. (I am starting to not care so much about it anymore, anyhow, may as well accept it if you can't change it.)

i'm so not looking forward to the scar that i'm going to have after this next surgery, but luckily it won't be visible. i'm just more worried about how the kids are going to handle the whole thing.
i already have so many scars all over my body that i've given up doing anything about them. luckily, the ones that i have on my face are hard to see unless you know that they're there.
have you guys ever watched "how to look good naked"? there was an episode on there about a woman who had heart surgery and she was self-conscious about the scar. by the end of the show she was wearing it as a badge of honor - alot of it is just about attitude.

now that i have my staples out, my incision doesn't look *that* bad.......i need to get some stuff to put on it (i'll probably just go with vitamin e because it's cheap) but since i just got the staples out yesterday i haven't messed with it other than to take a shower.

I wouldn't put anything on it while it's still healing - I don't know what the surgery was for so I would caution against anything that may cause infection or prevent healing. I have a couple keloid scars that haven't gone away in years but my derm did give me steroid injections into the keloids and I was using prescription Rejuva-Sil gel pads on the scars which flattened them out a bit. You might try that...

I did the bikini thing BEFORE I had kids. Since kids....no freakin' way. I don't want to see that so I am sure no one else does. I am the color of mayonaise.

Well tomorrow will be a full year since my successful spinal/neurosurgery (my lucky day!) Not that it has been a fully controlled experiment or anything, but I can honestly say that I have been extremely religious about vitamin E and scar cream application for a full consistent year, every single day (3-4 times) and the scar is still almost as red as at first. It has keloided a bit but it most certainly could have been worse (I suppose) if I had done nothing. I doesn't really bother me that much now though, as I have become used to seeing it (and to seeing strangers' eyes flit to it and back when they meet me -whatever). Funny how the scar on my hip (where they took the bone for the reconstruction from) is white and barely visible. Seeing as how I would also be caught dead in a bikini
