What is on the exterior of your home? Would it be possible to apply a fanfold insulation to the outside and then reapply the siding that is there?

Wood Siding that is Old and would come to pieces if taken off
It has lots of Cracks etc
My House used to be a Army Barracks
Confederate , I think (I dont think the Union had them in Texas that long ago)

What if you bought thick insulation 1/2 would probably do it for the outside this year. Next year you can try to put vinyl siding over it. Your house isn't huge so the cost of the siding should be doable.

They have 1/2 Fiber Glass Board 4' by 8 ' for between $7.00 and $8.00 but it is Easy to Catch Fire
Or
1/2 Foam 4' by 8 ' for $15.99
3/4 Foam 4' by 8' for $19.99
Seems kind of high to me

I am going to do the $7.00 to $8.00 Fiber Glass on one wall
Then Put Wire on it and Morter then Stucco or maybe Paint on the Morter
And see what that looks like
The Fiber Glass Board on the Small Back Wall
Then get some Chicken Wire
Then Morter
And go from there

I have a lower quality, but still good siding panel that is only $63 a square and you never have to paint again. If you buy from a lumber yard they should have something around that price range, but not as good quality. Siding is not too hard to install.

Don't forget that whatever you spend, you can take as a deduction on this year's income taxes. Personally I think it's worth spending more as to add to the value of one's house, rather than something that is purely functional but unattractive which will decrease one's home value.

There are suppliers in your area that you can buy from. The panel I sell is available near you OR you can find a panel at the local lumber yard for cheaper also. Jules is right though...you can write off the home improvements that make your house more energy efficient.
Right now you can get 30% up to $1,500 back on certain vinyl replacement windows. There are a limited number of windows that qualify for this though.

I put replacement windows on for the 2008 tax year and they were NOT deductable. www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.pr_tax_credits
