Anybody into this at all. I am thinking of getting a DSLR camera and I am going between the Canon XTi and the Nikon D40.
I have also been messing around with photoshop and I'm learning a little here and there.

Ok, this is for you camera folks.
This past year, I spent ALOT of time on the river and would have loved to get some pics. But alas, I have never owned a camera.
I am looking for something that will take decent pics and that I can take easily on the river with me.
Requirements
Must be small decent quality pics durable
Being waterproof would be nice, but since I have a small dry box, I can keep it in there during rapids. Water resistant would be desireable though so if it gets splashed, its not such a big deal.
Since this would be a river camera, cost is a concern as it could end up at the bottom of the river.

I have the Digital Rebel XT. It is GREAT!!
My mother has purchased TWO Digital Rebel XTi and they have both had problems within the first 30 days and had to be returned. She asked for a refund rather than exchange this time.

Lovin it so far... has way more features than I can figure out right now, but I'm trying to learn something new everyday. I pretty much take it with me everywhere I go. i picked up a canon backpack for $30 and I just got a canon 50mm 1.8 lens that takes great blurred background pics. I will post some up here later when i get the chance.
Let me know if you need help finding any of the stuff. I have been shopping around for months for decent prices and reading tons of reviews and going to alot of the photo forums.

This gives you an idea of the depth of field on the 50mm

After wanting a good camera since high school (1974 time frame) I made the leap this last weekend and bought myself a Canon DSLR. I really wanted the newest D50 but $'s caused me to not be stupid so I bought the 40D.
It arrives today and I am so very excited. My son is hanging around the house to sign for it so I don't have to wait until tomorrow.
My interest is scenery and unfortunatly, there is not a lot of that in middle oklahoma but thats ok. I will make do!!!
