I've always been such a sentimental fool and have hung onto things. It has finally dawned on me that these things are holding me back. I don't need these belongings to remember special events and good times from my past.
My life has been cluttered for far too long. I'm going through the house room by room and getting rid of the things that are holding me back from being who I am and who I want to be. It's past time I lived my life for me.
This is such an amazing feeling, very freeing.

Good for you. You will always have the memories so you don't really need the stuff.

Good for you. You will always have the memories so you don't really need the stuff. Yes, exactly. There will be pieces here and there I keep, only because I like them and they still fit with the new me. I'm in the process of painting the furniture. None of the pieces I bought myself, I don't care for them and they all have different finishes. This way they will go together better until I can afford to replace the furniture.

I am helping my neighbor do this to her place. She is a single parent and she was addicted to meth a few years back. You have never seen so much shit in one place. There is a path about 12 inches big to walk through. Last night we were loading things in my truck to take to the dump and she dumped out a trash can and we both barfed the stench was so disgusting. I decided to help her after my son had knocked on her door to see if her daughter could play and he came back and said it smelled like a dead body was in the house.... but then again this is the kids that tells me "it is time to clean mommy" when I have more than 4 items on the coffee table. He is a Virgo.

You know, one really cool thing someone told me is to take pictures of things. Like all those art projects they JUST CAN'T live without. Then you have a digital version that will last forever, without cluttering your house. You can keep EVERYTHING sentimental in one little folder in your computer memory (make sure you back it up).

Awesome personal realization, finding. You will feel a whole new sense of control when you re-claim your space. I do this regularly (particularly when I'm upset), but one friendly caution...I get on such a roll, I've had to apologize and even dig through garbage to recover something my sons are not ready to let go of yet. You have a new life and changing your surroundings, no matter how dramatic or small is empowering and helps put your head and thoughts on a new track of thinking. There are a million organizational magazines, sites, etc that will help you do this too. Solutions comes to mind, but I've got a ton if you want them. I've been known to make the mistake of chucking or donating something I've not used in a month, just to regret it. More power to you, just be careful. So many things that can appear to be junk, but have sentimental value can be refurbished (for a lack of a better word) into something incredible and updated. I have a dining table that had 4x4 while, glossy tiles set in. I broke those out and found a deal on some incredibly updated tiles and borders to update that beautiful table. It's one of my favorite accomplishments, I did it myself and it was cheap. DIY was a life saver while recuperating from surgeries along with decorating shows. You have come a long way, finding and I am very proud of you. Crushy

Three pieces complete, the 4th is under way. Only 3 more to go after this.
