The Dr. that I am seeing has expressed some concern over how I act during sleep. One time on a saturday afternoon nap on her couch, I woke up finding her hand under my nose trying to see if I was breathing. She look horrified and said that I was absolutly struggling to breath.
So, last week I went and did an overnight sleep study and I got the results yesterday.
They told me that most people have 4 -5 apnea avents an hour but they recover and have no affect from them. If you have 30 an hour then that means you have severe sleep apnea. She paused and said "you consistently had 55 apnea events an hour and so it is no wonder that you live being exhausted".
No wonder I am sleeping at lunch and at my desk during the day. I can not ever get enough rest.
So today or tomorrow I go and get a sleep mask and start having oxygen piped in to help me breath at night. Not looking forward to it but I will be glad to finally get a good nights sleep. I have been so very tired for so very long I hope it helps!!!!
I also expect that my depression will lift as well.

my dad and a friend of mine both have sleep apnea and the c-pap machine has helped both of them tremendously. it did also help with my friend's depression (along with getting the right cocktail of meds.) i'm constantly amazed by the advances made in modern day medicine and how they improve the quality of our lives.

Both my boys have/had apnea. The youngest was 2 when he had his sleep study done, they stopped counting at 16 episodes and scheduled to have his tonsils and adnoids removed as soon as they could. The older one didn't even get into a REM cycle during his study.
It's a scary thing, I hope this takes care of it for you.

If you remember one of our conversations on the plane was how my ex had sever sleep apnea. He started on the c pap after our divorce and it's made a world of difference in his energy level. I can't wait to hear how you feel after you use it for the first time. From what the ex says, it takes some getting use to having that odd looking mask over your face. He to this day struggles to keep it on at night. He says, he'll pull it off and not no he's done it. Best of luck to you. You'll feel like a new man in no time I'm sure. Gotta get up that rest for that cruise you're taking next month.

I've been using a CPAP going on eight years now. It's a lifesaver, no doubt about it. Believe it or not, you'll probably get to the point where you have a hard time getting to sleep without it. Of course, the past couple of weeks I've kinda had to adapt to not having it some nights. It's a little bulky to haul around for a sleepover...

As for the overnight comment..I have no idea what you could possibly be talking about Phyx...Ha.
Penny..I do remember that conversation on the plane. Hopefully I will adjust quickly to it because as you say..the cruise is coming!!!

If you can get use to keeping the mask part on your face even for 1/2 the night, you'll feel so much better. (just going by what my ex has shared with me)

Both of my parents have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and when I've been in the hospital for other reasons, my docs have said I have it and need a sleep study done. My regular doc has ordered one more than once, but how sexy can having a mask on your face be? I say that in jest of course. I know it makes a world of difference, but I guess I'm just not ready for that yet. Besides, psycho kitty bites the tubes and punctures holes in them on my mom's and with her renting from me, he'd do the same thing to mine and what good would that do me? Of course, if anyone knows I have horrible sleeping habits, it's you, Bob. ;D I've even heard you lose weight once you get regular sleep. Man, you'd think I'd run to the sleep study program?! I've attributed my lack of good sleep to all of the hardware in my neck. Of course, it does play a part, but realistically, it just makes my risks higher. I've been worried about you. Call me and tell me all about the RA, sleep stuff, the guys, etc. You know you are a friend for life and I'm always here for you. Crushy
