My 10 year old finally potty trained after the first of the year. Which is an unbelievable accomplishment for him as we never thought he would do this as he is so stubborn and bull headed.
He loves his independance with this and everything else he does, which is great until it comes to cleaning himself. He is notorious for making a mess all over the seat and on his clothes but gets very aggitated when he needs to be cleaned up.
I've tried telling him that everyone needs help from time to time, especially when learning a new skill, but it isn't working and I know he is beating himself up internally for not getting it right (times like this I really hate his dad and the damage he did to this young boy's self esteem), but I'm at a loss as what to do to help him with this.

Are there any clean-up tools he likes using? Like that scrubbing bubbles scrub brush comes to mind? Maybe if he could feel very helpful and just ALWAYS be in charge of cleaning up the toilet with that brush - not just after he is done, but after everyone?
Does he like scents? Perhaps you could get a handi-wipe scent he likes and make it about wiping the scent around his backside as much as it is about being clean? As for clothes, they have those shout wipes, maybe he would like that?
I don't know him or his particular likes/dislikes, but sometimes stuff like that works for my kids...
