Be careful. Some fertilizers are meant to be put down the winter before.
I'm growing baby eggplant and baby butternut squash.

We will be planting grass for our ponies, if we can figure out which kind is best.

I love to garden. I've been doing the Square Foot Gardening method. I bought the book and became a believer.
They just had a Brown Bag Seminar here at work on Square Foot Gardening, but I've been doing it for years. I have 5 4' squares lined with 18" of flagstone w/ thyme planted between the stones. It smells great when you walk on it and keeps your feet from getting muddy.

I'm not sure if you meant pics of my garden. I'm behind this year, but here's a link... www.squarefootgardening.comJust posting about it makes me itch to get out there. The best part about this type of gardening is you don't have a whole row of iceberg lettuce ready for picking all at one time. You can alternate the squares with cold crop, summer crop, etc w/ splashes of Marigolds, Dusty Miller and Petunias. I like to do one square for herbs, another for salads, another for pumpkins, etc, etc. It's nice too because it doesn't deplete the soil of nutrients since you're constantly replanting. I miss being out there.

What Zone are you in Texas, Freck? I'm in Zone 5. Since I could possibly end up in Texas, I am very interested. It would be nice to have a longer growing season.
We are in the desert, but we also have pretty harsh winters. Our growing season is pretty much May 15th (last frost) thru Oct 15th (first frost). My great grandma used to go by the way the sunflowers were facing and when. I've tried other ways, but her way is still best all these years later...
Has anyone had a 'Friendship Garden'? I might start another thread.

If I remember correctly, you are more Dallas or Houston, is that right? It's all flat there, I can't imagine it's that different. If I ever move to a flat place, I'll never know where the heck I am. If the weather is foggy here and we venture out of the valley, we're a bunch of lost natives. Yeah, make fun of me, Losh. I've still never gotten home first try from your house, without a traffic ticket or without about wetting my pants. You live in the freakin' boonies... BobfromAcctg's sons have identify me with 'the bread crumb lady'. I think it's a term of endearment. I admit, it's pretty funny a guy that many miles away was giving me directions to find my freaking way back home. Not funny trying to explain to the green cop that I was in a rent-a-car (although I was local) because I'd just rolled my car. Yep, that was a classic.
