On my Street they have 3 Portable Basketball Goals out in the Street and they are now adding anouther one Permanent
They must be Stupid as a Rock
In the past they have been playing basketball in the street when I needed to get home
There was a 5 or 6 year old playing
He Started Strutting Around like, *I know you have to stop and wait on me. And I am going to take my time and strut around.
What will happen when his Drunk/Drugged Neighbors come zooming through and don't see him or give a dam if he is in thier way, because Drunks think they have the right to run over him ?
When some of them get killed using the street as a basketball Court who is at Fault ?
The Distracted Driver that did not see them ?
The Brat/s that refuse to get out of the way, so they show off ?
The Parents for Putting the Basket Ball Goal in the Street ?
Now there are 4 or more about 50 feet apart all up and down the street here
I think they are just Plan Stupid as a Rock

see, i love that i live in a neighborhood where kids can play in the street, only pausing to shout "car" when the occasional car is coming through. it reminds me of the street on which i grew up. and i think it's really nice that one of my neighbors has a hoop on the curb where all the neighborhood kids can play. of course i don't have any drunks or drug addicts on my street...

Maybe you would have better luck meeting nice women if you lived in a better area.
I don't let my kids play in the street, but I have one that has to be watched carefully so they ALL play in my fenced yard. I think they it is awesome that they are providing activities outdoors for the neighborhood kids.

I lived in a neighborhood like that as a kid, too - but there is NO city/suburb where I would let my kids play in the street now. Period. Even in a great/safe neighborhood you can have a distracted driver, or a young one who panics instead of reacting appropriately... it just isn't safe, no matter what. In fact, it is the safe neighborhood where the danger is most likely to occur because the kids aren't looking out for it. Car vs kid - the kid will lose. It just isn't worth the risk.
I have been known to stop and ask the kids where they live and inform the parents what the kids were up to out there when they don't get out of the way fast enough. Most parents give them an earful. Even if they allow them to play in the street, they expect them to get out of the way!

My Community is different
Right across the street, the Rose Bush in thier Yard they stole from my House when my Dad owned it
The House across the street they stole a weight bench
They play Boom Boom Boom from thier Vehicles at all hours
I have called the Police on them for that
So now it is 1/2 as loud
I have thought about getting a Boom Box and when they turn it on, Play something awful
But, that would be *Different* they would be offended
And think they are in the Right because they are Mentally Deficient as all Drunkard/Druggies are
