For those of you who remember Mooneyes from ojar - she is having surgery in half an hour to remove her gallbladder. She has been in the hospital since Friday morning, and had a procedure done on Friday as well. This was supposed to happen Saturday, but they put her off until now. It is a pretty routine thing, but I just wanted positive thoughts put her way!

Well having had my gallbladder out personally...........she will feel like she has been hit by a truck (mostly on the right side) but it will pass before she knows it and shouldn't have any issues other than a shift in diet.

She came through fine - although she is in SERIOUS pain. She had her sister call me because she couldn't. I feel so bad for her! She will be better now, though, and at least the worst part is over. Thanks for all the well-wishes!

I thought galbladder surgery is really fast and easy, they just suck it out through a straw inserted into the bellybutton. Sounds like a long recovery process.
I would pray too but there is no one listening. If there was, why would they mess up her galbladder in the first place..did she not pray enough or something?
Thats the part I dont get...with any crisis, everyone prays for the person. Well, why did the crisis happen in the first place..not enough church going or something? I think women should get on their knees on a regular basis but not to pray

I think women should get on their knees on a regular basis but not to pray People just need to pray as a repetitive, soothing behaviour...haven't you ever heard the expression," god doesn't need people's prayers, people just need to pray"? Just let it be...people heal faster when they are prayed for (scientific fact) Do you really need to know the reason? (Do you think we'll ever be able to know the reason?)

She is still in so much pain that she can't sleep w/o serious pain meds, and still hurts even then... This is one week later, this doesn't seem right to me!

Actually, you are supposed to (normally) be able to return to normal activity within a week to ten days, with the soreness only lasting a week, from everything I can find (with laproscopy - which she had). She is still in so much pain she is taking the heaviest dose of painkillers and still only able to sleep the couple hours in the middle of the dose (and still with pain) and her surgery was a week ago. It should be easing off by now - especially since some people can already return to normal activities!

Again..................NOT unusual. Everyone has a different tolerance for pain, a different way they deal with it in their mind and (depending on how serious it is) how it affected your body before the surgery.
If it is done laproscopically, you still have four incisions, if not you have the one long one across your ribcage edge (same as old apendix surgery). They blow air into your body and peel your skin away from all your internal organs. Just think about that for a second..........lol. (IT HURTS LIKE HELL.) It takes a couple of weeks at the least to stop feeling sore.
If it persists or swells and gets hot that is a horse of another color. Tell her we are thinking of her and hope she is feeling better soon.

I told her to get into the doc - if he can't squeeze her in this afternoon, she will go to the ER. (This is the advice I got from my nurse friend.) Hopefully they can make sure everything is healing ok and help her manage the pain better.
