That Iran Presadent was one of the Hostage Taker Terrorests Way back when Jimmy Carter Bungled I guess all those detainees we are holding in Gitmo dont count as hostages. Our country is not doing a whole lot better. Back when he allegedly was a part of that, they were accusing the Americans of crimes....Just like our administration is currently doing. Besides, back in 05 the CIA admitted that there is doubt that the person in the pictures circulated is actually the Iranian Pres and that he may not have been one of the perpetrators. www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/12/cia.iranpresident/index.html

Those Prisoners at Gitmo are *Prisoners of War* POW Camp Instad of being Killed on the Battlefield They captured them Actually, it has yet to be proven that all of them are even enemy combatants. Many have been released after YEARS of imprisonment and torture without so much as a "sorry, wrong guy". Some were in combat zones giving aid to wounded and innocent villagers when they were "captured" Some were in non-combat zones, taken from their homes with only their word against others. Others include non combatants such as Children. I am sure that some of the detainees are in fact enemy combatants, some are possibly terrorists. But it comes out every day, that more and more of them are proving their innocence. The only reason the Bush administration does not want them to be reviewed by courts is because he might be proven wrong and that the tactics used by the administration will be proven unconstitutional (illegal wiretaps anyone)...

I don't know as I agree with you on this Kaos. Maybe it is just semantics, but hostages by definition are held in a torturous situation, mostly as a pawn, to further a group's ideology.
"enemy combatants" is a term not heard before the Bush administration, that I recall anyway, and I can agree that it is concerning that there may be some held that may not necessarily deserve to be there. Intense questioning through humane means could and should prove their innocence or guilt.
However, I will never say that any of them deserve the right of scrutiny of an American court, or deserve the rights afforded Americans. Fact is, they were picked up in situations that brought question to their activities and associations, and given those, should be treated under the acts of the Geneva convention as prisoners of war.

soup, I will agree with you that many, if not most were brought to Gitmo under circumstances that brought suspicion upon themselves. I will also agree that a good number of them are likely people that should be there.
However, many have been held for a number of years and were taken based on very little evidence. There have been numerous cases of people that were proven innocent and are still being held because the US government does not know how to release them after having held them this long.
You mention that hostages are taken and held in tortuous conditions. There have been reports of abuse, the pictures of the "detainees" led around in hoods. Maybe these are "security measures" or "legal interogation methods" but I would say that even the methods that are "legal" are fairly close to torture. Sleep deprivation, extreme temperatures, light deprivation, etc. Our interegators may not be beating them or water boarding, but we are treading a very thin line.
I know I have seen these reports on places like CNN, Fox (Freck's so called No Spin Zone), BBC, NPR, and a few other sources. I like to get me news from a few places so I dont base my ramblings on crap from one source....I get my crap from many places....but I will admit, its all pretty much crap.

Iran is the New Nazi Germany No, it's not. Your rhetoric is second to none, Freck. Nazi Germany in the 30's had the most powerful military on the planet led by master strategists who rewrote the book on warfare at the time. Iran is maybe one step up the ladder from being third world. There's no comparison.

Just because Fox News doesnt report it, doesnt mean it did not happen. He may not have beheaded anyone, but we are treading a very thin line between interrogation and torture. Nobody, not even the liberals, is overlooking what they (terrorists) have done. BUT The people of Iran, the people of Iraq, etc... Are not all terrorists. There are alot of people there that do not agree with what they do.

It's the regime that consists of terrorists and/or terrorist sympathizers. Who are doing a fantastic job of oppressing their own people.

I suppose, but do you honestly believe they have the means to enact that plan? Germany had a large Jewish population of their own to exploit. Does Iran? Israel runs circles around Iran in terms of their intelligence agencies and their militarys. I'm not defending Iran. I just think it's laughable to think that we need to invade Iran in order to protect Israel. Israel is more than capable of defending itself.
