I really hate to suggest this , but having been a nurse in this field (but certainly not a diagnostician), I can't help but wonder: has anyone suggested an oncologist? Certain malignancies often present themselves as infections that cannot resolve themselves. Don't feel bad for suggesting it. Honest. Nobody has ever referred us to an oncologist based upon the results of all the blood work they've done over the last 18 months. Trust me, that was one of my initail concerns when we first started visiting the ENT last year. He seemed to have some genuine concern as well. But, when blood work kept coming back totally normal other than the one test that checks for infection, I don't think they saw a need. That one test was always slightly elevated but not to a point where they felt extra concern. Thanks for the suggestion. Honestly, I really appreciate anything at this point.

I guess what the ENT said was what I was trying to suggest... Since it seemed to have resolved itself for the most part after the surgery, maybe this IS an isolated incident? You might see it again in two years or never again? The key is you know what it is and the treatments are still working (aren't they?) So as long as it seems to be severely reduced maybe it is mostly better? I remember freaking out when she got the strep again, because I thought the tonsilectomy didn't work - but she has been clear ever since. It may not have been a perfect cure forever, but it worked for most of the time!
IS he responding to the antibiotics? What a scary place to have an infection!

Well, it seems to be responding little by little to the medicine. I am going to finish getting through this round of meds and then go from there. Before his surgery last time, it had gotten to the point he'd only be off the medicine 2-4 days before the pain and swelling would come back. So, it's just going to be a waiting game at this point. He did tell me that it's starting to hurt again so that doesn't have me overly amused. But, I'll just have to wait it out. I'll let you all know in a few days if it stayed gone or not.
Shattered, thanks for remembering and checking up on him!
