Thanks everyone for all the good ideas for questions....I've never done speed dating before but figured it would be a good way to "jump back in with both feet, ready or not"....I'm not seeing it as a super serious thing. I pre-paid so I will be less likely to jam out....not that I'm super shy about meeting people, really....just nothing like divorce to undermine your confidence. You have to start again at some point right? Oh and I am not into LARPing....just about died laughing when RO told me about it....it involves dressing up in costumes, going out into the bush, and re-enacting Dungeons & Dragons stuff.....and some use it to spice up their sex lives.... ummm. not for me, thanks. But at least a question about it would get the person talking about what they do like to do for fun?? I'm not sure I'm really going to be up for asking anything too deep like "What is your biggest passion in life?"...but surely the other person asks questions too right? So hopefully, I won't need more than 2 or 3 questions in 6 minutes....unless he's practically non-verbal.....umm, I'm hoping the super shy types wouldn't even come out to a speed dating event, so hopefully that's not an issue Thanks for all the "Good Lucks" guys!

All I can ever think of is the first time I ever heard of LARPing...I was watching the 1st episode of Beauty and the Geek from last season. A guy on it was a larper and had everyone totally lost. That is so freaking funny...Run, run fast!

Also, I wanna know what larping is. Live Action Role Playing. Most commonly Dungeons and Dragons or Vampire the Masquerade players who dress up as their favorite character and act out adventures IRL as opposed to with just pencil, paper and dice. It's a little odd.

I think it is awesome you are going to go too. I was all set up to go last year and my friend backed out when she met someone two weeks before. I don't have any question to add but like the time and money one a lot.

So it was quite fun, actually, not as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be......and of the 10 guys there, there was only one that was a definate "no"...he barely spoke English, couldn't understand what I was asking him even after several repeats, and asked me if I "lived with my parents" and if "my parents had an arranged marriage?" WTH?? Most of the guys were very nice and I think it went well....although I didn't use the larping question at all....ended up just letting them ask the first question and then taking it from there, just kindof shooting the breeze with all of them....except one guy who was a chemist (who seemed sort of surprised when I understood his job description). And another guy who was in construction, who managed somehow to be overtly sexual and to have me in stitches laughing within the first 3 minutes....go figure.... definately a bad boy (but I'll still probably mark him as a "yes".....sigh, I know....) Anyhow, I would definately recommend it as a interesting night out....even if I don't get any dates from it....it met a nice single girl there before the event started (one of the other participants) and we exchanged emails......she was there without a friend cause all her friends are married. So at least I'll have another single gal friend to go to other speed dating events with (alot of my friends are married or coupled so I am getting sick of being the token single chick at their dinner parties). It was easier than I thought it would be.

You are so brave. Glad you had a good time.
The poor guy that didn't speak English probably felt way out of his comfort zone and there is nothing wrong with putting down a "yes" for a guy that made you laugh.

It was easier than I thought it would be. Things like that almost always are.

Aw, K, you rock. Good for you for taking the plunge. And how exciting about meeting a cool single girl friend in your area! To new adventures!

That is awesome! I am so glad you had a good time! You are so brave. I'd probably talk about going but I don't know that I'd ever get the guts to go. I am glad you had a good time and I am glad that even if no dates come of it, it was a fun night anyway. And, if you get a date or two, good luck!!
