I'm trying to plan an adult vacation, no kids, not the other kind. Someplace warm, maybe Mexico, maybe Florida, with great fishing and plenty of outdoor water activities.
I'm having troube finding a cool, out of the way place to go. I don't want to hit the big tourist stuff, but maybe that's limiting myself.
The real kicker is that I'd like to keep it to under $2000/person including Airfare.
Any ideas?

Don't post it if you don't feel comfortable, but from what area would you be flying? I was under the impression you're from the New York area, yes?

Washington DC airports are 100 miles up the road. Charlotte is probably a 3 hour drive. I think I'm flattered that you thought I was from New York. I've lived in Virginia all my life, except for 4 years in Tucson while the ex went to grad school.

Well at least you're not offended I thought New York! I must have gotten mixed up.
For $2K pp, there are many sweet deals to the Carribbean, or Mexico or South America. Just stay away from where the currency is strong in this time when the dollar sucks.

I heard a few weeks back that there are going to be great deals in the Caribbean this season because of the airline situation. I guess inventory on flights is dropping dramatically, and fewer flights mean fewer people, so the hotels and resorts figure to offer some incredible packages to those who can get there. The key is to book your airfare early, then shop around for your actual vacation package.

Its probably taboo to mention a company on this forum, but I am planning a vacation thru a company called costa rica rios. My girlfriend and I are going on a trip called "week of whitewater" Its a week of whitewater kayaking in Costa Rica. The trip cost 1599 per person plus air fare. Air fare ran us a little over 600 per person. So that is right around the 2K/person you were hoping for. It is all inclusive (food, lodging, guides, and equipment).
They have other trips like week of adventure with zip line and mountain bike tours, etc... if you are not into the kayak thing.
their site is www costaricarios com

I hope you all have a good time. In searching, I saw that to enter Costa Rico you have to have a certificate of a yellow fever shot, just in case you didn't know.

I will have to check out what else I am going to need. Thanks for the heads up. Actually, just looked it up, and it says that the certificate is required if you are entering Costa Rica from South America or Sub Sahara Africa. SInce I am traveling from Colorado, I think I am ok.
