i have a brother that i have had for 3 or 4 years, but it is very worn down, it was really only supposed to be used for occasional sewing. i dont sew that often, but when i do, i usually have a ton of stuff to make. this past christmas, after i made the kids pj's, i went to make several blankets for my niece, and i think i killed my machine!

they are pretty easy to make, just buy a patern and follow the directions. if i did it more than once a year i would be able to do it without a pattern.

They have huge stores here that will do demonstrations on the different machines and such. Maybe you should go to a place like that and check them all out. Then buy somewhere else.

Sorry to butt in since I don't sew, but my mom does. She's had her Singer for over 30 years and it still works perfectly. It's the bulky kind with the foot pedal. I've heard that they made machines meant to last back then vs. now. It could be worth checking out estate sales.

singer used to be the best, but nowadays everything is made so cheaply. i never thought about an estate sale, that is a great idea!
i dont think they have anywhere around here that will do demonstrations, i was thinking about going to a sewing group or something and asking them.

Sometimes vacuum repair shops sell used machines. Be careful when buying used, make sure the instruction manual comes with it.
