Give me 20 minutes with a laptop within reach of a wireless network and I will have the wep key to log into your network. but I digress... . Can you still get into the network if you have to add the mac address to the router?

The average joe, though is not going to go to that much work which is why I did not mention it here.

If you want a cheap computer, check with local large businesses or universities - often they pay to get rid of their old computers, even if they still work, because they upgrade on a schedule.

If he doesn't, you can always see if the State you live in does surplus. I know that we do with the State Of Utah, and one of the guys from ORS was telling me that they had pretty good laptops, like 3 yrs old, for a $150.

You can get a decent laptop on Ebay, say a 500mhz processor, fine for basic tasks, internet surfing, etc, for around $100. Todays pc's are way more than most people need unless you are into things such as gaming or really heavy duty graphics apps that require powerful processing and large amounts of memory.
