I have one dog ($800), one dog ($500) and one dog ($100 for adoption fees). The $100 dollar dog, Rocko, is the BEST dog of all of these. My dog Zoey was a freebie, minus vaccinations, vet checkups, spaying, etc. My ex and I got her from one of her students when she was a puppy. I got to keep her. The dog, that is. ;D She's a golden retriever/aerdale/something else mutt, and she's the most good-natured, tolerant, happy dog I've ever met. Freebie mutts kick ass!

the 100 for rocko covered getting him fixed and his shots and the fees that the shelter charges to adopt him.

I am with you there - I LOVE freebie mutts! Given a choice I will take a mutt over a purebred every time. This time, though, the beagle was just the only cute thing available between craigslist and 3 shelters!
The sheltie was for Harry - he wanted one of that specific breed and we found one for him. My general choice would be a springer mutt - and up here they are often mixed with huskies. Kinda cool combo. Ah well, it will be another 15 or so years before I get to find one again!

Rocko is a rhodesian ridgeback and boxer mix. HE looks like this one, but his nose is black and he has black eyeliner. He has a little underbite, too. He is 95lbs.
