I figured out why I like the house so much. It reminds me of one back in my old town. It used to be the govenor's personal summer home back in the day.
I was looking at purchasing it a couple of years ago because it has been sitting empty for years, but the family doesn't want to sell it even though no one ever uses it anymore.

We bought it in 2002, once we walked through it we fell in love. It was built in 1910 and has mucho character. Sorry in advance for the thread derail... I'm always a little unsure how to refer to my house in the past tense. My ex and I bought it together, and I had to buy her out in the divorce. (Damn CA no fault divorce... ) I often catch myself saying "we" when referring to when my ex and I bought the house. But saying "I" doesn't quite feel right either. What do you guys do? Nice house goods, we now return to your regularly scheduled thread.

I bought the house. The downpayment came from my savings. I paid the mortgage out of my income. I now refer to it as my house.

(Especially when discussing some negative aspect or feature the house may have.)

My husband and I fixed up a house together and everything, but it is in his name only for legal reasons at the time.
I call it HIS house just to pick on him.
