Although I understand it is manners to do the whole thank you card thing - and for work I do think it is very important - as a person I really hate getting them. I often request people NOT send them to me, and really honestly prefer a verbal or in person thanks to a whole card thing. Shey ok---i should voice...i mainly send them to my family and those that EXPECT one after years of knowing THEY EXPECT them... I am speaking of sending a thank you, or small note and gc to someone you barely know...perhaps because they are going through something rough, or perhaps bestowed a random act of kindness on you....

In that case - I love the gc idea! I think that gives someone flexibility, and is a lovely way of perking someone up! If that is a midwestern thing - I am glad I am midwestern! ;D

Apparently, jules informed me...it is a midwest thing to send someone a thank you note and gc to someone that is not a close friend. She told me that I would be presumed crazy if I did that in her city...well, I already am crazy... not a midwest thing.... we do it in the south too.. down here its called manners hey, i send thank you notes! i have manners! but sending something to a near stranger is NOT done. unless you want to be considered a stalker...

Not really a regionalism, but it is fifty degrees here and even though the snow banks are still a good eight feet high (they are at least starting to melt) kids are out in shorts and t-shirts.

Since I live in upper michigan which is refered to as the U.P. (you. pee. as in upper peninsula) i am called a Yooper. Anyone who lives "down state" is called a Troll because they live under the bridge - the Mackinac (mack -in - aw) Bridge.
