A big part of the reason my ex and I broke up was that he wanted to get married, have kids, and live in the same town forever. I wanted to travel the world, do new things, and have a lot of adventures.
I'm finishing grad school and am off to Asia for at least 9 months in September. This means leaving the city I've been in for over two years, moving out of my first apartment, and giving away almost everything I own.
I've been wanting to do this for years, and he was holding me back. It's a lot of change though. It is so final that I am leaving the country without telling him. I imagine that he is re-engaged now, but I still have moments where I think he'll come back.
It feels so good to be physically moving on, but it's scary too.

Good for you! You need to do what's right by you. Better you do it now, before the investment of marriage and kids is made and the break up causes more heartache.
Good Luck in Asia. I want to go there one day and visit Taiwan.

If you are White and Female You may not make it back They Kidnap White Women and make them Sex Slaves in those countries Something to think about OK Freckles, I usually take you with a grain of salt. But this, I find quite offensive. Your broad stroked, rude, un-informed, baseless, line of bullshit is really starting to show just how ignorant you truly are. These statements are similar to me saying something like.... People from the south are inbred rednecks People from Texas shoot foreigners People from (Where ever it is you are from) have sex with their sisters. Get it? Probably not. But here it is. You need to start getting your news from somewhere else. Start researching your statements before you post them. Its really no wonder you cant find a woman. If you have conversations like this with them, I am suprised they dont run away while you are talking to them. My family is from Asia (China, Taiwan, and Japan) and I can tell you that none of them have ever kidnapped, or heard of anyone kidnapping white women for sex slaves in Asia. Its usually the white people going there to kidnap Asian women. Sorry to threadjack on you, Super. I hope you have a good time in Asia. What are you planning to do there? I would not worry about being kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. That might happen if you go to Freckles' home town, but in Asia, I think you will have less to worry about. My current girlfriend, K, lived in South Asia working for an international school for years (and she's White). She said that she actually felt safer there than some of the places she's been in the US.

It feels so good to be physically moving on, but it's scary too. That fear is a good thing. It makes you alert, so you can take in everything. Anything brand new will be a little scary, unless you are made of steel. I feel confident that you will settle in and have a fabulous time.

I'm off to travel. It's something I've always wanted to do. In some ways I envisioned doing it with a boyfriend or husband, but I also really always wanted to do it alone.
I lived in Taiwan and I traveled for a month afterwards, but it's always scary at the start.

I love traveling alone. Yeah, it'd be nice to have a partner in crime sometime, but you get to have adventures and make connections while on your own that you wouldn't traveling with someone else. And I haven't been sold into slavery yet. And I think at this point I'm too old and outspoken to fetch much of a price.

This thread is making me chuckle.... Freckles -3 The Ladies +2 Kaos +1 hahaha Super, That is so exciting that you are off to explore....I'm sure that the feeling of being scared will dissipate quickly. You've been to Taiwan before, too right. Don't forget us here...log in and give us an update once in awhile, okay? (Some of us will have to travel vicariously for awhile) We'd love to hear about your adventures. And I wouldn't worry about being wrangled by a redneck & kept in slavery Travel with a light heart and an even lighter bag, kittenhart

Will you be spending any time in Taiwan? If you are, would it be possible for me to give you info about my family's home and perhaps get you to take some pics for me?

I'm not sure if I'll end up getting back to Taiwan or not. If I do, I'll let you know. What part of Taiwan are they in? Maybe I've been there.
