Call me old, but I hate to text message. Maybe that's because I only text the ex, but if I have something that requires a response, I'd rather dial the number.

In the military, a person might get reprimanded for talking on the phone while walking and missing a salute or you may be asked to put the phone away if walking and talking / texting on it. But there are a great number of military personnel using phones for official business that it would be impossible to prohibit their use. It is however illegal to talk or text on a handheld phone while driving on ALL military bases. Doing so can cost you your driving privs on base (active duty or civilian).

Sleeping while driving is bad, too. lol. Pretty much anything but paying attention to driving while behind the wheel is dangerous. Texting tho, I must say is on the rise for especially our youth while driving. Regardless of age, this task can't be done while having attention driving a 3-5 thousand pound vehicle. When your eyes are off of the road for one second ( IF YOUR GOING 60 mph) your vehicle has traveled 80 feet. When you are texting, your eyes are off the road a lot more then one second (imo)

In CA they just passed a hands-free law for driving and talking on the phone. As in, it's illegal to use your phone while driving unless you have a hands-free device.
Yet there is no texting while driving law. Texting while driving is IMO much much more dangerous than yakking on the phone. At least on the phone your eyes can be on the road.

I agree I'd would hope the texting would fall into the hands free law. If your texting, you're clearly using hands.
