This is WishingForImpossibleThings from Ojar.. td lurks around here from time to time, so I thought I'd register and post an update for those who care.
First of all, td and I are still together and doing the LD thing. It's been just a bit over 1.5 years now, so that's good. All those who had bets we wouldn't last over a year..well you lose. Sorry.
We have created a lot of memories together in this past year and a half--like seeing the pigeon drop dead in the graveyard where Ben Franklin is buried, playing highway leapfrog with an SUV that had a pair of those rubber balls on it from the NC/VA state line to Manassas (we affectionately refer to him as "Ballsack"--and yes, ballsack got off in manasses). I also managed to traumatize my kid by allowing him to ride a rollercoaster with her kids (Journey into Atlantis at Sea World Orlando). I was also stunned at the apparent lack of Amish in Intercourse, PA. We had to drive around a bit to find them on that particular day, apparently.
Crazy stuff like that. Good stuff, bad stuff..it's all stuff..
I will be going back to school in January, pending the results from my entrance exam. I am pursuing a "Legal Studies" major which is essentially pre-law. Yeah, I'm going for my JD and telling IT to bite me. I am considering focusing on either family law (surprise, there..huh), constitutional law or internet law. I've still got a while to think about it.
As far as my kid goes, his vocabulary is back up to where it should be (for those who don't know/don't remember, when I got custody of my son in my separation he was almost 4 years old with a 4 word vocabulary). However, he has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. We are managing it through therapy and medication, and lots and LOTS of patience.
As far as my ex goes, she's still lurking around from time to time, but I expect this to change at any time. She has become increasingly ill-concerned with my son's problems, and never, EVER shows up for anything other than her visitation (school functions, doctors/shrink appts, etc). It's really sad, but it's to the point that my son doesn't want anything to do with her and looks upon td as more of a mother than his own mom.
..and her kids love my kid and vice-versa. Mostly they love to beat each other with rolled up newspapers. I should record that--because it'd make me some money.
And it doesn't really matter, because she doesn't help me with him, anyway. I can't rely on her to send him home in clean clothes, much less help me pay for everything. Fortunately, we get free therapy for him through a couple of non-profits here in town, so that helps alot.
td's ex is still a douchenozzle, but I don't want to get into that.
So yeah, things are going pretty good.
