I love Foreign Films...
I get to purchase them for my library...
Anyone else like them and have any suggestions?
Foreign or otherwise...let me know.
Thanks.
Current favorites include Amelia, Everything is Illuminated, Azumi, Monsoon Wedding...plus so many more.

Have you ever seen "Jean De Floret" and "Manon of the Spring"?
It is a set of French films that came out in 1986 and are amazing - at least to me. The series starts out in "Jean DeFloret" with a man from Paris moving his family to a farm community because he has always wanted to be a farmer. Two brothers in the community take offense because he is not 'one of them' and plus because he is a hunchback. The first film is his undying optimism with wanting to succeed at the farm despite the roadblocks that the brothers throw at him.
The second film takes place 15 years later after the hunchback has died and now his only daughter is back to run the farm. She finds out what the brothers did to her father and she plans a revenge.
They are THE most powerful set of films I have ever seen.
If you can not find them, PM me your address and I will send you a copy of my DVD's. I Love to have people watch them and see what they think.

Yes, I have seen both of those and would add those to a positive list as well.
I think you recommended them to me on another site...
They are excellent.
I watch a wide variety...
Thanks for reminding me...we have both in our collection at the library...we boast for having a varied collection but it went down in the past couple of years due to budget cuts and change in directors.

Hopefully you already have Fellini films in your collection.
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Ashes and Diamonds -- saw it years ago, an older Polish film that is very memorable.
And speaking of Polish, Kieslowski's films, Red, White, and Blue.

Btw, assuming you meant foreign language -- not English language films from Australia, NZ, South Africa, etc?

Yes, I meant foreign...but truely will take any video recommendations. I am a huge movie lover and we purchased a special license to show them for the next year. I am also working with one of the Universities, the Imax, and the Museum on starting an Independent and Foreign Film Perspective... So any and all recommendations...I welcome... Thanks!

Ooh, nice! Unfortunately no one screens indie or foreign films around here, and I have to watch any DVDs of them by myself since all of my friends (around here) think they're too odd. One of my favorite films is Heavenly Creatures. (Based on a true story. Juliet Hume changed her name to Anne Perry when she grew up -- yes, the writer.) Flirting -- one of Nicole Kidman's first films I think and just adorable. Recently saw the documentary God Grew Tired of Us and just loved it. (Actually I've enjoyed many documentaries, but that's probably a different category.) Cape of Good Hope Tsotsi Forgiveness Faith Like Potatoes (haven't seen this one yet but it was recommended to me and one my customers bought it for me.) (But I'm a little biased because of my love for South Africa)

I think I need to relocate to the East Coast...I think I will be going to NYC in March... Oh, keep the suggestions flowing...

I think you recommended them to me on another site... Well...If you people would all keep the same names, maybe that would not have happened! Ha. Sorry for not knowing. Glad you enjoyed them!
