This is going to be a thread about logical thinking puzzles. Easy to solve, they do not require much if any calculating or smarts. But you gotta "think outside the box".
If you have heard one of them don't just spit out the answer! Give other people a chance.
Once someone gets the right answer I will post a new one.
A man is walking down the middle a deserted road after being out drinking. He is dressed all in black. Suddenly a car comes racing over the hill, with its headlights off but swerves in plenty of tme to avoid the man. How could he see him from so far away?

That's correct!
A ship is at anchor in a bay. The tide is out, but it starts to roll in at the rate of 1.5 feet per hour. Assume it takes 3.5 hours for the tide to come all the way in (high tide). There is a ladder on the side of the ship with rungs placed 1 foot apart. At the start of the tide coming in the water is midway between the first and second rung. Where is the water relative to the ladder at high tide?

Same spot. The ship rises with the tide, the ladder is affixed to the ship. I'll give someone else a chance now.

A plane is flying east across the United States at an altitude of 3000 feet, carrying 126 passengers. As it's flying above Mississippi, it loses all it's engines and goes into a death spiral and crashes, directly in the middle of the Mississippi river, which we will assume for the sake of this problem runs exactly North to South.
On which bank, East or West, should the survivors be legally buried?

a man and his son are in a terrible car accident. they survive impact, but barely and are rushed to different hospitals that are twenty miles apart. when the son is wheeled into the operating room the doctor takes one look at him and says, "I can't operate on him. He is my son." How can this be?

I know this isn't the answer, but the middle of the river is federal property.

Regarding erf's post:
You're supposed to answer the outstanding problem before posting a new one.
You are also supposed to say in your problem that it's not a step parent, the son didn't have 2 gay fathers, etc.

you hadn't posted yet, but survivors don't get buried.
there is no step business or adoption thing going on.
