One of the neighboring ranchers dropped off a chihuahua lhasa mix off with my parents last night. My daughter wants to bring it home with us when I come to get them this week.
My youngest has an allergy to dogs, and I'm not working atm. It is staying in my parent's house right now and he doesn't seem to be having an issue with it being in such close quarters.
The little guy is so darn cute that I'm having a hard time saying no. Should try I be strong and not give in?

Yes, yes, yes. Animals can bring so much joy into anybodies life. In the past, how long has it taken for the allergic reaction to kick in?

You should give your youngest more time with the dog to see if there is a problem with the allergies before bringing the dog home...otherwise it's going to get really ugly when the allergies crop up and you either have to medicate him unnecessarily or remove the dog from your house after the kids get attached to him...then your son will feel guilty and the other kids will resent your son for it.

Bubble boy is already on daily medicines for his allergies. Zyrtec or claritin in the morning and benedryl at night, plus singulair. Poor kid is allergic to corn, wheat, oats, cinammon, peanuts, apples, cats, dogs, grass, dust, pigweed, and mulberry. The cat I got for his older brother doesn't seem to be bothering him and she has been here for over a month now.

Then put him in close contact with the dog for a while...I don't know how long is enough time, check with your pedicatrician.
Make sure it's all good before you make such a big decision. Cats aren't the same as dogs.

Cats aren't the same as dogs. He's in the house with all the kids until I get there to pick up mine. With such close quarters we should know rather quickly (like tomorrow morning) if it is going to be a problem.

I wasnt aware that allergies would necessarily show up that quickly.

I wasnt aware that allergies would necessarily show up that quickly. His generally show up within hours. You can generally tell he's had something he shouldn't have had at lunch because it it running out of his pull up and down his leg or his face breaks out in a horrible rash that evening.

Looks like you got yourself a new doggie! Ah, if I do this I HAVE to make sure he gets his bath every night and a coat of either vasoline or eucerine to close the pores as soon as he gets out. Ever try to grease down double jointed kid?

Dust wasn't a big issue back in Oregon, but it is here. He hates it so much and is such a fight, but I need to get back in the habit of it after every bath anyway.

If he's doing ok without vaseline all over his body then why bother?
Reminds me of one of those greased pig competions at the rodeo.
