Seriously, anyone that knows me knows that I draw in the crazy people. For whatever reason. I get stalkers out of nowhere...Where some people never have to worry about a stalker, I have had anywhere from the mild weirdo to the ultimate crazy guy and most stages in between. Come on, who does this really happen to?!?
I draw in the stalkers, the obsessives, the needy and clingy, the mamas boys, the ones with legal/prison troubles (for a long time a question way early on in meeting anyone was if they'd been in jail and I kept getting "yes" answers!!), the control freaks, the ones that lie so much they live in their own little alternate universe (and this makes up the ones that do it on purpose and the ones who don't even know they are this way)...And, it is the extremes at which they fall into these categories that only makes it worse. I draw in the weird people enough that I am often very hesitant in dating. I expect everyone to be creepy and crazy.
So, I don't know how many of you know about the site Craig's List but I put an ad up a couple weeks ago looking for an entertainment center that would actually fit my tv (it's been hard to find one). Anyway, I got a couple e-mails when I first put it up a couple weeks ago...All normal. I get to checking my e-mail last night and yesterday some guy e-mailed with the following e-mail:
I have a great one - I'm a single dad who hasn't been on a date in over a year - actually Its been 10yrs since I went out with anyone except ex? so, what do you look like? kevin
SERIOUSLY!?!? IN RESPONSE TO ME LOOKING FOR AN ENTERTAINMENT CENTER?? Now, I know I am not the only person this happens to but when I am looking for reassurance that the world is right after all and I don't attract freaks and weirdos, I get this and I just wanted to go crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head.

Simple: don't engage the freaks and weirdos. At all. Maybe you need to amp up your spidey sense.
As for the craig's list dude (and, yes, it appears that there are primarily freaks and weirdos on craig's list, from the little I have seen, since it is free), simply delete. Or if you really do want his entertainment center thingie, tell him "My husband thinks I'm gorgeous. Now when can you drop it off?"

LOL Well, Craig's List guy isn't getting an answer. AT ALL. And, I have gotten better over time at seeing things. People are shocked at the things to me that send up red flags. In the end, I am usually right though. I've been around enough people that I notice things other's normally wouldn't. And, I have gotten much better over time at shooting down the weirdos from my past that keep coming back around. They go away for a while and then they'll try again. I shoot them down, they go away...It's a weird cycle. I have had to threaten more than one with calling the cops and that finally does the trick most of the time! It just never fails...If I were to walk into somewhere with my girlfriends or alone, the guy who tries to talk to me is usually the one who ends up the freaky one. I don't get it! Okay, before anyone says, "Well, maybe you're the freaky one..." I think if it were that much the case, my friends/famiy/co-workers wouldn't be so baffled by it. None of them ever imagined they'd know someone who could get a stalker just by stopping for gas one night...

Yes there are creeps, felons and dangerous types. And sadly you only have one body give. But ya gotta give it up someday. It's gonna be cold and lonely taking care of all them cats most single women end up with when they don't fall for any of the guys that stalk them I mean try to talk to them.

No, I've seriously been toying with the "Crazy Cat Lady" idea for a while now...

The scary thing is your excluding all the cnvicted felons. I mean at least those guys have been caught and potentially changed for the better by their incarseration. Which leaves the rest of the population of men which includes a number of individuals who are far more deceptive about what they are doing which is illegal, criminal and scrupulous. Least the felons are a known commodity.

LOL Okay, in all being serious, I know there are tons of people who have never been convicted of a crime that have done far worse than some who have been incarcerated. Still, I can't date someone who really has a criminal history. It doesn't mean that they are all bad guys...I do have a friend who did do some jail time. But, I have not one but 2 exes looking to prove I am a bad mom, that I am making a bad life to thier children, and that my kids would be better with them. I just don't think it's a path I need to travel. My point was more that for about 6 months, it seemed that any guy that would talk to me (the library, the grocery store, the club, a "friend of a friend," my kids' school even) had been in jail/prison. It's like they came out of the woodwork all at once.

Hoodie, it shouldn't, but it still amazes me how similar we are. I swore up and down to Ames and Angel forever that I had a freak magnet implanted somewhere.

Like DUI when they were 21 or drug dealer or what?? Okay, so in the 6 months I was referring to, there was a guy in for attempted murder; one for narcotics trafficing (which I confirmed the story later - Got busted with half a million in pot, meth and heroin headed over the border from Mexico); one for fraud, theft, burglary; one for rape and kidnapping...There were a couple who did minor time for misc drug charges...
