I've had my dress out where I could see it. Actually, it's where I left it the day I got married.
So tonight, I put it away. Just spur of the moment. It was kind of strange. There's a tiny drop of ice cream on it that you can kind of still see, and it's weird because I remember the exact moment at the reception when that happened, and so it makes a lot of the feelings of that day come back. It was 5 years ago -- which seems like just yesterday and a lifetime ago, all at the same time.
I had mixed feelings about it, but it feels like the right thing to do. Blah.

Good for you, hope. That's a big step. I actually have two dresses (one wasn't sewn together in time and had to buy one at last min)....I've tried selling them through the paper with no luck and can't get around to ebaying them. But it's something I should definately do.

I should sell it and buy something cool with the money. It should be out of my home altogether.

Good on you Hope~~how you looked at that dress every day is beyond me. Im glad its out of sight now. Mine was couture so I had it professionally cleaned and boxed up pretty much the minute I took it off (well, not quite that soon hehe ) but its traveled across the country with me a few times. Its in a box in a closet way up high where I never have to look at it, not that I could see the actual dress. I think that would probably kill me. I will never get rid of it though. Same with my rings...I will keep them forever. Hell, my vows were for forever and I actually meant it even if he didnt.

He asked for the ring back, and I gave it as part of the settlement.
As for the dress, it didn't bother me to look at it...it reminded me of happier times, I had sort of accepted it as part of my past and that's what I thought of when I saw it. It's part of my past which has all made me "me." But clearly I was hanging onto something having it there which needed to go.

Good for you, hope! You should be really proud of this accomplishment.
Mine is boxed and preserved, too. I'd have a hard time getting rid of it more because my gram bought it for me. She passed away just before my wedding. I have no idea what to do with it though. I guess if I do end up doing the single parent adoption thing I can still use it to make a christening gown or something. The dress isn't tainted just because the marriage became so.

I'd keep it too if it had a sentimental value like that attached to it. I'll probably wind up keeping mine in the end -- as much as I think about selling it I don't know if I could.

I was really sad afterwards. It's nice that you gave yours to charity. I like to hear about what other people did with their dress.
