A friend of my mom has offered to sell me her car because at 95, she is finally willing to stop driving. We have been pricing it and trying to figure out its value.
Last week another friend of my mom's walked into her room at the retirement center and said "Lets talk about this car. You don't need the money at all and Nita's son could really use it so why don't you just give it him".
The lady looked at her and then right away said "OK".
I was stunned to say the least. So, hopefully this weekend I will go and pick up a 2001 Ford Escort with - get this - 30,000 original miles! Not thrilled its a Ford Escort but hey - at that price and mileage I am not going to complain!
It will replace my 2000 Saturn that has 214,000 miles (all mine!) and takes care of the fact that my car was involved in a hit and run and came out the loser. He mostly totalled my car so this came at a good time!
Always a bright spot somewhere!

I LOVED my little escort - they have a surprising bit of power. We called it my "little blue car that likes to go fast".
Congratulations!

Not a bad deal at all. You may give her a receipt. If she is still filing a tax return this could be a nice write off for her.

I had a Ford Escort at one time and it was a really reliable car with good gas mileage. I drove it through the Roger's Pass repeatedly 2-3 times a month for 5 years and I treated it pretty badly, hardly made any repairs to it at all except for 1 timing belt replacement and a few oil changes. It was a great car, actually, not fancy or fast, but super reliable. You will like it.
All my cars have always had a "theme song" (yes I'm odd). This one's was "Everybody Dance Now" by C + C Music Factory ;D

Ha. I have had many others say the same thing to me Blu!
I picked up the car this weekend and was very pleased. Its like it is brand new but it is VERY basic. Crank windows, no electric doors / locks - all manual...etc. My son was complaining about that but I shut him down with :
"Son...Free covers a multitude of sins!". He laughed and agreed!
30,000 original miles - amazing. Everytime I get in the car I am Thankful that I don't have to be buying a new car now.

You should share your good luck with your Hugthat friends, Bob.
Figure out the value of the car, and divide that cost among the dozen or so regulars on here. I will pm you as to where to send my cut.

the best thing about the lack of options is that there is less shit to get broke. i've driven a lot of old cars (teacher) and the first thing to go is usually the power windows and/or locks.
