I joined my "Culture Club" at work I need ideas! Tomorrow we're having our first meeting and apparently I'm supposed to have ideas on how we can meet/get to know people at work. I work for an insurance company, about 110 employees. This is the email she sent out: --- To discuss future social events, pitch-in's, etc. Let's come up with some new ideas to get to know each other within the company. Bring your ideas (lunch club, book club, walk/run club, etc.)! ----- I need ideas, please! I had no idea I had to have ideas tomorrow!

At my work and no claim to fame...it is the land of the misfits...
We have done:
book clubs (no brainer - librarians) - very easy to organize and there a lot of resources available. If you need help in the selection process I can point you in the right direction. The main things is to provide a variety so everyone is involved. The person that chooses the book presides over the questions and or presentation.
running/walking clubs - we have done these but mainly focused on one event either for charity or the various races they hold in my area. There is a group of us that walk the river on a regular basis after work.
bowling - we do this often. It is a great way too get to know a different side of your co-workers.
softball or volleyball leagues- again it gets someone involved...check with the local parks department or your YMCA.
trivia nights - we form teams and play to earn money for our library or favorite charity.
a lot of smaller groups meet on a regular basis within our library...
Just a small sampling....we try to get to know one another since we are so spread out...

(my first thought when i read the thread title was "boy george is in trouble??")
how about this. first friday of every month, each division takes turns being in charge of a themed happy hour (assuming there is a place that can hold all 110 employees.) the division decides on the theme and is in charge of food, drink, decorations, etc. attendance isn't required, but encouraged.
another idea is some kind of company outing for employees and family members -- maybe the company can contribute some money toward group purchases of tickets for a minor league hockey game or baseball game or an amusement park.

(my first thought when i read the thread title was "boy george is in trouble??") You don't really want to hurt him. You don't really want to make him cry.

It used to be a library and they converted it to a really nice bar. They even left the ladder and some of the shelves but they put the high end booze on there now instead of the reference books.

Ice cream socials are fairly cheap and you can have those once a month. Buy a few gallons of icecream, cherries, fudge and whipped cream and folks assemble their own Sundaes while they socialize.
A good icebreaker game for dept meetings is you have a meeting and everyone gets a post it note with the name of a famous person on it. (these are filled out ahead of time and each person gets one placed on their back where they can't see it) In the first 20 mins or so of the meeting you go around the room and you have to guess whose name is on your back by asking a fellow coworker a series of questions with yes and no answers designed to figure it out. You can only ask each person five quetsions to keep the employees moving around and talking to the entire group.
Example, Mickey Mouse is the celeb on someone's post it on their back.
Questions the associate might ask to figure out whose name is on the post it on his back:
-Is this a fictional character? -Is this character a male or female? -Is this character on a tv show?
Etc Etc.
THis sounds cheesy but employees have fun with it.
