i know the people who should pay attention to this will likely be their normal ignorant selves, but it would be nice if the upper boards didn't all turn into shit.
who am i kidding? assholes are assholes and assholes 100 percent.

beginning to lose interest in the board because of all that. which i guess is a good thing since there are more productive things i can be doing...

I have been known to participate in a 'jack from time to time - my apologies. However, if it is the stuff that is just truly innappropriate, I think the best way to handle it is to ignore it. If no one responds... intelligent/thoughtful stuff can go on as normal. If someone does respond, ignore that too - it will be like two separate threads. If it gets bad enough, the mod will take care of it, but I think ignoring works better than most things.

AMEN, fRE. I wish that, too. The trolling is so boring, to tell you the truth. And Sheyd, I agree that ignoring it is best. I try to do this most of the time, too, but sometimes (like today), I just feel fed up with the trolls dominating the room, so to speak.

it's sort of hard to ignore when there are more people who jump on the bandwagon than who wish to keep on topic. just saying. but what do i know?

But that is because people who DON'T want to hijack don't STAY in the threads, or on the boards. That is my point. If we really want to stop the hijacking, we have to KEEP posting the serious stuff. Plus, I think the boredom is part of what sets off trolling sometimes. Keep posting! Give us something REAL to discuss... Shey

The thing is Shey, that it gets boring after awhile when you see that someone has started a "real" post and you are interested to see what other people have to add, and then you log on later and see that all that's been added is the endless backing and forthing of the highjackers (who I guess just want to stir things up). Usually what is posted is high shock value types of things or friendly banter, but not "real" responses....probably because they are bored....still it's like every thread is turning into a random thoughts thread. Guess I'll end up like Jules and log on less, which is probably a good thing....I spend too much time here....but I like my OJar friends, and I keep coming back to see how you're doing.

I am going to say this and only this... sometimes people get excited, they say things that are outrageous... they are having fun. Now... the threadhijacking thing... I mean do you really think that there is a conspiracy to take over a thread when all you have to do is start a "NEW" thread??? No. More than likely people are just caught up in one conversation and see something new posted and jump all over it. I have seen everyone in here post stuff a little crazy.... I read a lot of it. That doesn't make me hate it here. Different days, different moods. Bashing people because they let loose every so often is just as bad as the "hijacking" itself.

Bashing people because they let loose every so often is just as bad as the "hyjacking" itself. i understand that. but when it goes to two or three pages , is it too much to ask that they go back and delete the hodgepodge? this is supposed to be a support forum (or it was at one time)who wants to post about things that are personal to them if a couple of posters are going to mock what is said and ridicule anything contrary to their limited understanding of the world? nobody is against fun. that's not the point. if you see a chance to take a poke in jest at someone, go for it. again, that's not at issue. that humor is what makes this forum, IMO, i would just like if you could keep it in the lower boards whenever possible and preferably in your own threads.

trollers are not about support, nor compassion, nor anything that matters on a scale that we usual folks care about and we all know that

Ok... point taken LadyJ, but I play fair. I have offered support and help to many people here. I have actually really grown to like it here. I understand that when shit goes hay wire everyone is afraid of loosing the integrity of the site.... but, the trolls are here and they can be fun. They make things interesting by saying things many of us don't want to hear. They do it to get a rise out of people. Out wit them or join em. I would be the first to stick up for someone who was on the ground being kicked.

i understand that. but when it goes to two or three pages , is it too much to ask that they go back and delete the hodgepodge? Seconded. The 2, 3, 4 pages of small talk that go back and forth between 2 or 3 posters becomes unreadable and kills threads. If that's what you want to do, create your own thread.
