Mate, gas here in England is (with the conversation rate of dollars and gallons to pounds and liters) about $5 per gallon. And its rising. So, less than $4, is not that bad.

While hiking the AT people are complaining about how crowded it is and he is flabergasted because he was used to backpacking in the UK. When he tries to explain how good (not crowded) the American woods are in comparison to England's one of the American hikers looks at him and says, "But Bill, we're not in England."

Well, England is pretty big. Not as big as the states, but about 132 589 square kilometres, which is almost 52 000 square miles. But remember, we are attached to Wales on one side and Scotland on the top. So you can go a while before you hit water. The public transport, it depends where you are. London is great. And so is Manchester. But other areas dont even have a night service. And dont get me started on Sunday service. Only London has the tube. A few other areas have trams, or metros, but most places only busses. But even transport is expensive. In London, its about $100 a week to have a pass. And then are congestion charges, which is the $16 you pay EVERY DAY to go through the central zones. And parking is about $40 for a few hours. Other places are cheaper though, so it really depends on where you live.

i actually thought petrol was more expensive in the UK. (my liters to gallons conversion must be off... no surprise, i am an american...)
ok, i just calculated. at 105p/liter (or £1.05/liter), that would be £3.97/gallon. because the US dollar is sucking so royally now while the GBP remains fairly strong, the exchange rate is just about 2:1. That would make petrol prices in the UK more like $8/gallon.
the rest of europe isn't much different.
so the way i see it, americans don't have too much room to bitch and moan. while the rest of the world has been conserving their gasoline usage for ages by driving smaller cars and not driving unless necessary, we've been driving huge "american" gas guzzlers to the corner store to pick up some milk (especially in suburbia.) maybe increased gas prices will cause some people to reevaluate their driving habits.

(that worked out really well) Oh no, we have not invaded sovereign nations for cheap oil YET. That is coming, but it has not happened yet. Oh I know, you all think that that is what Iraq is about but its not. It is /was a combination of too many agenda's, too little planing, horrible intelligence affected by too many agenda's and way too large of ego's, but nothing about oil. That one IS coming and then there will be NO confusion as to why we are fighting over oil. Since every item your fingers touch during the day are created using Oil, that war will be huge. The depression will be trivial if we don't fight for oil. Just my .02$

Stop crying about the price of gas and come up with a solution.. until we all do something about it.. nothing is going to change and we will remain sheep. Look up the alternatives find something new to use and do it.. Sitting on a board and yelling that your getting screwed at the pumps goes on deaf ears.. we all are.... do something

I am genetically engineering a new fuel, it's basically Ethanol spliced with Yeast... you throw a little sugar in the tank, the hybrid Ethanol/Yeast molecules eat it and reproduce. So the fuel grows in your tank.
