An excellent example of irresponsible journalism. Even putting aside the inexcusable glossing over of legitimate environmental concerns, she - with a straight face - uses the terms "oil shale" (proven repeatedly to be unviable) and "clean coal" (sorry, there ain't no such thing). Bottom line, as shey says, is we need to be devoting our resources towards finding viable RENEWABLE sources of energy. Running roughshod over our world to buy us a few more years in our doomed oil-based economy is unacceptable. It'll probably take some subsidizing, which is fine - the petroleum industry has benefited from immense subsidies for years. Besides, the rising cost of oil will make alternatives much more attractive. It's been a great run, with vast amounts of energy available cheaply for a long period of time. That run is coming to an end, and we need to prepare for the transition. You really look at the world through green colored glasses... What do you think about Nuclear Energy?

You really look at the world through green colored glasses... What do you think about Nuclear Energy? Not really so green-tinted as all that - long-term, it makes much more sense from a purely economic perspective, as well. It's a fact that we live in an oil-based economy, and it's a fact that there's a finite amount of oil. So there must be a transition to a new underpinning for our economy, and it's probably going to suck for a lot of people. But it won't suck any less if we do it later than if we do it now. In fact, it stands to reason that a more gradual transition would be less traumatic overall. Nuclear is under-used, when you consider it's statistically one of the safest and cleanest energy sources we currently have. If only we could figure out a way to dispose of the waste....

You really look at the world through green colored glasses... The green colored glasses of reality! Do you think this can go on forever? That they will just keep finding sources of oil and we can all go on using it forever? That is what bothers me about all these discussions - like everything would be ok if only gas was cheaper. THAT is rose-colored glasses. We can't keep this dependent upon something that WILL run out. It isn't maybe it will, it isn't that it won't if we conserve - it WILL run out, the question is just how long before it does.

You can make Oil out of Waste
I have a Garden Book that says Cow/Pig/Human/etc Waste under 700 pounds Pressure will make Crude Oil
You can Google it and see that it does work
But, they are to Lazy to do that at the City Sewiage Treatment Plants etc
They just Dump it on some Hay Farm (All accross the country)

Freckles, if that stuff becomes practical and actually works - that would be great! I don't see it happening, but I am just as happy to have that be researched as any other renewable! In the meantime, though, drilling STILL isn't the answer. AND - even if it works, it will cost more to produce, so we still have to just suck it up - either way, our cheap energy times are gone.

I dont think it is about Supply and Demand at all
There is Gas in the Tanks at the Stores
If it was about Supply , there would be no gas at some places
There is the Same amout of Gas as there was last year and the year before that
They are just raising the Price of Gas/Desel because they can
