Trolling is saying something incendiary, that you know is not true, just to see what kind of reaction you get. I know you're not stupid enough to truly believe this statement, so you are a troll. I will rescind my comment if you truly believe this to be true. Then I'll replace "troll" with "moron". Obama hates Energy He will Shut off the Gas Pumps and we will all Die if He wins

Freckles, I am with Jim on this one - and you know I am usually supportive of you. You write statements that are so blown out of proportion, you are either deliberately exaggerating, or you are seriously deluded. You are actually claiming "we will all die if he wins"? As if the choice in president could actually kill off all of the US? It is one thing to state an opinion, but that doesn't BORDER on the ridiculous - it is firmly in that camp. It makes you look either incredibly stupid (and I am with Jim, I DON'T think you ARE that dumb) or you are deliberately making grossly overboard statements to upset people. That is the definition of a troll. Plus - you are not making the points you want to make when you go so overboard that ANY statement you make becomes not worth listening too, so it defeats your purpose of making it.

If you dont like my Energy Thread , dont read it If you can't come up with any better responses than either a bunch of drivel or "I know you are but what am I", don't be offended when I call you a troll. But I will contribute something positive. Here's an intelligent, well-written, thoughtful, and relatively non-partisan article that's well worth 10 (or in Freck's case, 30) minutes of everyone's time. I'm very interested to hear anyone's comments on this. www.ourfuture.org/blog-entry/americas-energy-empire-100-year-view

Very worth the read - thank you Jim. Not sure I totally agree about the wind/solar thing - because although we can't control them, we CAN control the market in research and production for those types of products (thereby making money, etc.). There is work being done in my department alone (electrical engineering) that show we can take the lead in this new type of production.
I do see the "oil era" coming to an end, and the grumblings of those wanting it back as the dying gasps. It WILL end, it IS ending, it is time to look to the future!

Not really. Sure, there's money to be made and economic potential there, but nothing that can't be emulated by other nations. I think the point that these types of energy can't provide a basis for political power (since there's nothing proprietary about them) is a valid one. Doesn't mean we shouldn't aggressively pursue these energy sources, though. I saw an interesting movie over the weekend - "Syriana". A pretty good illustration of the marriage between energy (in this case, oil) and political power and wealth.

The Future Is Nuclear Energy
Also more of all the Different Kinds of Energy including Solar and Wind
Here in Texas the Semi-Trucks are on the Highway all the Time with Giant Wind Blades (I see them every day)
We are also trying to get 50 More Coal Plants (The environmentalists from Other States rushed in and are getting that shut down)
Texas is 1/3 of the USA's Power(Energy)
They are Trying to get a Nucler Plant started 90 miles from Here
If Texas left the Union it would take 1/3 of the Energy with it
Texas will not Vote for Obama
