When you shine a Spotlight on Evil then you can Fix it

ok, i haven't watched the video yet (i will in a bit), but i'm just going to throw out there that i'm so f*cking tired of liberal bashing. (and, cherry, though your comment sparked my desire to express my frustration, your comment was mild so please don't think this is about what you said.) i've just heard a lot of it in the last few days. people seem to be under the assumption that people are liberal because they want to be seen as politically correct, or because they are brainwashed, or because they are stupid. i'm liberal because i genuinely care about people and our society, more than i care about how much money is in my own pocket. the "economy stimulus" package? just think how much good that kind of money could do if it were directly applied to education or social programs such as job training for welfare recipients, improved child care, parental education, etc. etc. when i speak on issues, it's because i believe in them with my whole heart, not because i think it sounds like the right thing to say. in fact, considering the company i've been in this week, it's been quite the opposite. and yet i still stand by my beliefs and will speak out on them when given the opportunity to do so. if that makes me a bleeding heart, brainwashed, marxist, socialist filled with middle-class guilt and self-hate (all things I've been called directly or indirectly this week), so be it. ok, rant over. sorry, this was probably inappropriately placed, but what do you expect from a brainwashed marxist?

When you shine a Spotlight on Evil then you can Fix it And evil probably was done TO THAT WOMAN. However, there are also other children placed for adoption because they were severely neglected or abused continuously, or because their family wasn't willing to put in the effort to show they WON'T do it. Which is why I am glad you are willing to fight for her case. My problem is with the assumption that because something went wrong in one place, child protective services is evil. Be careful of generalizations. And Jules - YAY! Thank you so much - I too am DAMN SICK of the liberal bashing. That is fine if you don't like something, but the generalizations there are ridiculous too. And thank you, too, for pointing out it is NOT because of this posting, but an overall attitude sometimes - something which I also agree with. I think Cherry was posting about something that IS sad-and every case like that SHOULD be examined - I just think it also has unintended side-affects that are extremely damaging. Shey

ok, i saw the video. while i'm so sorry for the mother's struggle, and even more sorry for the daughter's, i'm left with a LOT of questions.
why did the father report abuse allegations about his youngest, but not the other two children? if the mother had improper housing, why were not all 3 children taken away? why did she have improper housing in the first place? was the father really abusing his daughter? would it have been possible for the two parents to work together for the sake of the child? did the mother have a lawyer? why did she not get any of the pertinent paperwork? did she contact her local government representatives? same questions for the father. i have no doubt that sometimes mistakes occur, but i have a hard time believing that a parent who has not been convicted of any crime could be so powerless in regard to his or her rights.
CPS workers are practically saints to do what they do. they do a job that many of us would not have the strength to do, and all they get in return for it is criticism and hate. like shey said, those people who have that job do so for the love of children -- not for any other reason. if you knew the salary of someone who works for CPS you would laugh at the notion that one would do the job for the money or take a child away from his or her parents for some kind of financial kickback.

state lottery funds are most often used in many states to fund public education. education is certainly a value.

Now that is just ridiculous freckles! That makes me mad! If you decided you couldn't wait to find that wife and adopted, would YOU treat a child like your wife??? Do NOT make such generalizations about men! A child is a CHILD - and anyone who treats them otherwise is NOT good! Shey

I bet He is treating that Ladys Daughter like His Wife Now that right there stepped over my line. Not every single man who cares for children is a pervert!! I know a LOT of really great single fathers. And just to correct a mistaken assumption that seems to have been garnered from my posting this...............I am not making a generalization of ANY kind. I simply thought that this was the saddest story I have ever heard. But if you have some frustrations you would like to continue to vent in my direction or on me directly, please continue..........

cherry, i am sorry if you felt as though i was venting in your direction. that was not at all my intention, and i'm sorry if i didn't make that clear. like i mentioned, it's just a build up from my week, and vent in general -- not at all intended for or about you.

No worries hun. Honestly I like to see people passionate about what they feel and believe and be able to give me information about WHY they feel/think that way. More than once I've revised my opinion because of it. And I admit I've done my share of bashing/venting in the past I can't help it, I do it to tweak the dragons tail ROFLMAO. ;D

I simply thought that this was the saddest story I have ever heard. I am NOT saying you were making the generalizations - but this story definitely does - as do the responses to it. I believe I stated that when I agreed with Jules that you were just posting it because it IS a sad story? If I didn't - my apologies. My response to the story is simply that these types of videos (and the responses) generate a stereotype about child protective services and its workers that is completely incorrect. Not only incorrect - but damaging. There are atrocities that occur in the system, mistakes made, but to generalize from that that it is "evil" in general, and that they are trying to steal children/sell children/out to get parents is a pretty dangerous jump - and all too often made.
