Yup. She is looking forward to it. Ah, the mind of an 11 year old caught up in a horrible situation.

So, Idoc, how did the pound trip go? It went well. We had a great day together. I would say that we turned a page today and I have "won her back" so to speak. We were together was from 11 am until about 4 pm. I had already arranged to have a friend and my GF over for the football game because I had honestly thought she was going to cancel on me. So when it was getting closer to 4 pm I gave her the option to stay but she decided to go home. If it wasnt for that she probably would have even stayed longer but she was starting to get tired, and I figure it might be better anyway that we "quit while we were ahead". She said a few things of significance during our time together... Her older sister "doesnt realize the importance of a relationship between a father and his daughters". Someone has been talking in her ear, but finally saying the right things. And her sister "gets too mad at people and doesnt forgive them for things". Her sister "thinks things I did are much worse than they were". My younger daughter is ahead of her years in maturity and is finding her "niche" in this whole messed up situation. I can only hope that my older daughter will come around but she isn't budging. We have another dinner meeting with the psychologist next Thursday, which to me is almost pointless if my older daughter doesnt show up again. I fully expect her not to be there. We'll see. As far as the shelter visit went...I had planned on going to 3 places, 2 smaller ones and a very large facility. The 2 smaller ones were near my place and they didnt have anything suitable, mostly large dogs and mostly pitbulls. My daughter wanted to go back to my apartment and "play", so we skipped the 3rd place. Hopefully we can do that next week. This picture was taken this morning outside one of the shelters. picture removed due to concerns of abuse by members of another forum

That's great news, Steve! Try and be patient with your older daughter. It'll take some time but I'm sure she'll come around. That's a great pic. She looks like you but she manages to be cute regardless.

I am glad things went so well for you! I am also glad that she gave you the insight on the older one. Maybe's Nikki's closeness with you will start to wear off on the older one. BTW, your daughter is beautiful! I am very happy for you! (((((((hugs)))))))) I hope things go well on Thursday.

I think Mag is spot on regarding Nikki's feelings.
You are a loving dad that aches for his girls. I'm so glad to hear your stbx has softened a bit, allowing your girls to express their love and loyalty to you.
I admire you for not giving up. So many would take the cue and give up, but you are not. As a product of divorce, unfortunately, my dad didn't care about or want contact with me....your girls are lucky their dad loves them.
Hang in there guy. Your efforts for contact will not go unnoticed..not in the long haul anyway. I only wish my dad cared like you do.

Well, after spending 3 days together over a 1 week period she seems to have cooled off again. She picks up the phone when I call, and she's friendly enough, but in no rush to "hang out again".
My older daughter isn't budging. Next month is a year since I have spoken to her.
Why is it that deadbeat dads that treat their kids like crap are the ones that the kids often see as this wonderful person, whom they call whenever they can, and can't wait to see on the few occasions that they are around?

Just don't try and push her to much towards you, sometimes it has the opposite effect and pushes them farther away. My suggestion would be to think of something fun to do with her.. either a movie she has been wanting to see or perhaps something that has to do with a hobby of hers. Maybe she likes writing in a diary... plan a trip to a bookstore to pick out a new one. She looks about the same age as my daughter and the only thing she is really interested in is boys and makeup right now. Maybe take her for a day at a nail salon and get her a manipedi. Just throwing out ideas.

She IS 11, honey. My 11 year old doesn't want to hang with me all the time either. They have friends, a budding interest in boys, school work... My daughter loves her dad, but she doesn't want to go to his house, either - because her friends, her stuff - none of HER is there. He buys her stuff, she has other friends there, but it isn't the same as "home". I wouldn't read too much into it. Shey
