I am sure it is.... and before you say that just goes to the pockets of child molesting priests, churches spend a shitload of money helping those in need.

I think there are racists, child molesters and tightwads in both the liberal and conservative camp...
I think I know more of what erf means by conservative, though- more like his definition - wanting to keep things the same or return to the "good old days" - I don't know that it was meant to be intended to talk about the whole range of conservatives (which is a WIDE range, depending on the subject under discussion!)

It kills me when those on the left regurgitate lies about what being a Conservative means. It does not mean re instituting Slavery or stopping Suffrage. It means reducing the amount of Government intrusion into an Individual's life. It means Individual Personal and Property rights trump those of Government. Liberals are generally Fascist, there I said it.

Goods, well said on all accounts. Jules and erf have obviously bought into the widespread liberal propaganda because they lack actual facts. Which is true about most liberals. Liberals operate on the basis of emotion, not fact. They accuse us of being close minded while they scoff at the facts. Ann Coulter sits back and laughs at her liberal attackers. While the veins in their heads bulge she produces more facts that they simply can't rebuff. They yell, they scream, they have no leg to stand on.
To the original topic. Shey, talking to you is useless. You refuse to acknowledge the differences between men and women, therefore you operate on under false pretenses. You need to wake up to reality. Men and women are different. Now, rather than trying to make us all the same, why don't inform yourself about the reality of our differences and maybe we can all work together a bit better.

Conservatives are usually considered like religious conservatives, and it is usually more about limiting abortion, etc, not about more freedoms. Liberals are considered more about social welfare, taxation and social programs. Fascists are a totally different ballgame, actually - liberals are more to be considered socialists... Shey

I not only DON'T refuse to acknowledge the differences, I say there are MORE differences than simply that of gender. Which is where you try to go with things. Btw - I HAVE studied gender differences - EXTENSIVELY. Study after study - it is part of the whole psychology minor. Trouble is, you want to make everything a MAN/WOMAN issue - that IS looking at things as black and white, and WAY too simplistic. Add to that that you assume every "feminine" trait or way of dealing with things is automatically inferior, and use deragotory terms to describe women or womenly traits, ESPECIALLY if men possess them (When every trait you can describe crosses genders, so that is especially insulting to men). I think you are limiting yourself and those around you. I not only acknowledge differences, I encourage them, do you? Shey

and for the second time today i will agree with blazin.. except this time i am going to agree 100 friggin percent.
this is actually something james and i have been talking about lately.. there are so many things that men let slide off there backs... women in general do not do that.. every damn thing has to be discussed. why? what does it benifit? a simple i dont like that is enough. no need to draw it out, get the feelings out etc. if women didnt worry so damn much about everything, when the really important stuff comes along, it might be easier for the guy to discuss it.. i mean after being critisized over everything, by the time something important happens, all the guy hears is wah wah (like all the adults in charlie brown)

I would consider Libertarians TRUE Conservatives. Except for their position on abortion, I am pretty much right in line with them. I think those on the Left like to paint Conservatives as Religious HOWEVER; very few of the Conservatives I know are overly Religious.. if Religious at all. Would you consider Reagan, Bush Sr, Gingrich, Bush Jr. Religious? AND by Religious I mean Religion guides their political decision making? Remember it was Bill Clinton who made a point to campaign in Baptist Churches, he stumped in many more than any Republican. By the way I don't not consider either Bush as being very Conservative. Fascism - a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism. While I don't think the Left wants a dictator. I do believe they go very far to suppress opposition and criticism. ie Global Warming They try to regiment industry, commerce. Look at the Unions attack on Walmart, goods made in China... I believe the Left uses racism often, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson. Ask yourself who is behind the Anti-smoking movement... that is Fascism. I do not smoke, but I find it hard to believe that the state has any right to tell a business owner that he can not allow smoking in his business. Don't give me any crap about a person's health. I, as a citizen of the United States have the right to work anywhere I want, (I am not entitled to any job) I have the right to eat at any restaurant, shop at any store, belong to any club that will have me. If I don't like the smoke, I can choose to go somewhere else. A private business owner should be allowed to LEGALLY run his business as he see fit, perhaps he will succeed, perhaps he will fail, BUT that is up to him. NOT some Jackass Politician trying to buy votes. Life, Liberty and the PURSUIT (not guaranteed) of Happiness. I have the right to pursue my own Happiness, Government can get the fuck out the way.

Explain to me why the prohobition of gay marriage fits into the conservative platform since it isn't religious, according to what i have skimmed here today.

Not all Conservatives feel that way but most define Marriage as the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. HOWEVER; they have no problem with Civil Unions and if Insurance companies want to recognize that giving the couple the same rights as a Married Man and Woman... then that is completely up to them. Let's ask this.... say I live with my brother, he has a great job with great benefits. Could I Marry him to take advantage of that? What if he is my step-brother? What if we are both gay and in love?

To me marriage is about having a family, having children. Two men, two woman, can not have children.... yes yes I know they can adopt. Why is it so terrible to keep marriage defined as a man and a woman, husband and wife, mother and father? Why do we need to change the definition?
